Hogares currently offers three programs:
Latino Transitional Housing Partnership (LTHP) - LTHP offers
scattered-site transitional housing, primarily in Ward 1, with a maximum stay
of 18 months. Participants receive
supportive services during and after their transition for an additional six-twelve
months, totaling up to 30 months of services. LTHP is committed to removing the
barriers that prevent low-income immigrant populations from securing permanent
stable housing in the District of
Columbia.
Currently, LTHP rents ten properties comprising twenty units of housing,
ranging from efficiencies to four bedroom single family homes.
Sin
Barreras - Sin Barreras provides scattered-site multicultural permanent
supportive housing to eight (8) families whose lives are impacted by a
disability. Participants will have a variety of training and counseling options
at their disposal, access to educational and employment training as well as
medical care, legal assistance, developmental screening, and childcare. Support in obtaining self-sufficiency is also
provided by holding a portion of rental payments in trust to help participants
save money as they are developing other areas of their lives.
Housing Counseling - Housing
counseling plays a significant role in increasing homeownership, particularly
for minority families who want to make their American Dream come true. Counseling is also a fundamental factor in
combating predatory lending which plagues minority communities. First-time
minority homebuyers are especially vulnerable to predatory lending practices.
Housing counseling is one of the most cost-effective ways to educate borrowers
on matters such as inflated appraisals, interest rates and the mortgage
settlement process. Currently, we have
two certified housing counselors on staff prepared to conduct crisis counseling
as well as advice for first-time home buyers.
Shelter Plus Care (S+C) - As a
sponsoring agency, Hogares manages slots for the S+C program, evaluating and
placing applicants within the program. S+C programs are designed to link rental
assistance to supportive services, in this case Hogares’, for hard-to-serve
homeless persons, with serious or multiple disabilities, and their families.
Hogares develops and maintains relationships with property owners and managers
who provide the housing component of this program.
